Come Insegnare Filosofia nei Licei? Didattica e Indicazioni Nazionali | LIVE con Massimo Mugnai
For many years, our country has been debating the best way to teach philosophy in secondary schools. The classic contrast is between the historical method, by far the most widely used in Italy for decades, and the problematic or thematic method, more widely used in other European and Anglo-Saxon countries. In recent days, a heated public debate has been underway regarding the new National Guidelines for High Schools, regarding the amendments made to the previous ministerial regulations regarding the teaching of philosophy. Among the new provisions discussed are the explicit proposal of the problematic method (alongside the possibility of the traditional historical approach), the elimination of an explicit requirement to teach specific authors, and the inclusion of the requirement to dedicate the fifth year to contemporary philosophy (20th century and post-21st century). We discuss all these topics in this live session with Professor Massimo Mugnai, who not only was a member of the committee that drafted the new guidelines but also published, in 2023, a short article entitled "How Not to Teach Philosophy," in which he addresses the issue of philosophy teaching in its many facets.
