Heather Cutting on Win Hill in Derbyshire to Regenerate Moorland
A colourful team of tractors cut heather on Win Hill in Derbyshire. After cutting the heather brash is stored in dumpy sacks before being transported by helicopter to other sites in an effort to regenerate fire damaged moorland. Heather (Calluna vulgaris) cutting is carried out for three reasons: • As an alternative to burning to control mature heather • To introduce fire breaks • To help regenerate moorland
