Living Laguna Madre Special | Texas Parks & Wildlife Series (Full Episode)
Episode 26, Season 39 of Texas Parks & Wildlife, a weekly PBS series about the great outdoors. On this special episode of Texas Parks and Wildlife, we head to the coast to explore the sparkling waters of the Laguna Madre. This long, narrow bay system stretches 130 miles between Corpus Christi and the Rio Grande. Follow along as we go wade fishing in the shallows, birding along the bay, and studying the natural wonders of this pristine Texas treasure. The Lure of The Laguna Madre - 1:20 Join the Islander Anglers, a saltwater and freshwater fishing club at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, as they go after black drum in the shallow waters of the upper Laguna Madre. Birds of The Laguna Madre - 7:42 During the fall bird migration, the Laguna Madre provides a critical stopover for many migratory songbirds and a sanctuary for resident and overwintering species of shorebirds and waterfowl. The South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center is a great place to get a look at some of these majestic bird species. Tag along with a group of birders as they discover what birds are arriving on this windy fall day. The Science of Saving Baffin Bay - 13:12 The salty waters of Baffin Bay, part of the upper Laguna Madre, have long been a fishing hotspot for anglers on the Texas coast. Over the last few decades however, scientists have become concerned with the water quality and other threats to these important fish populations. The Harte Research Institute and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department have been working to monitor the conditions of the bay and ensure a healthy future for the Laguna Madre.
