How to use gold leaf with watercolour - your questions answered

Gold leaf has a reputation of being hard to use and rather scares many artists. This reputation is unjustified and once you have a hang of the basics you can use it to add an irresistible shine and luxury to your artwork. The traditional gilding process is long and involved, but there are short cuts you can take which will still result in a beautiful finish, without all the preliminary steps. Using it with watercolours presents a few extra challenges, because you cannot paint over gold leaf in the same way you could with acrylic or oils. In this tutorial, I will introduce you to gold leaf; real and imitation, loose and transfer. And show you a simplified way of applying it to your artwork.
