Chile lidera en buses eléctricos — Ahora quieren convertir la flota antigua y te explicamos todo

Santiago is consolidating its position as the city with the most electric buses in the world outside of China: Red Movilidad has surpassed 4,000 operational electric units, representing 62% of its total fleet, with projections to reach 68% in the coming months. In parallel, in January 2026, Law No. 21,793, or the Retrofit Law, came into effect, establishing for the first time a legal framework for converting internal combustion engine vehicles to electric in Chile, with a projected cost of approximately half the price of a new electric bus. The charging infrastructure includes nearly 1,900 public charging points, 35% of which are fast or ultra-fast charging stations, providing sufficient coverage for long-distance trips to the south of the country. At CCinforma, we complement this analysis with the milestones we've documented on the channel: Santiago's global leadership in electric buses (covered in February 2026), the US$200 million annual savings that act as a shield against rising oil prices (analyzed in March), the expansion of electric buses in Rancagua, Antofagasta, and Arica, and the inauguration of the first High-Power Electric Highway on Route 5 South. Discover the true state of the silent electromobility revolution in Chile: its achievements, its budgetary challenges, and the next steps for an industry that already produces, exports, and competes globally. #ElectricBuses #RetrofitLaw #MobilityNetwork #ElectromobilityChile #RebornElectric #PublicTransport #SantiagoLeader #ElectricRetrofit #DecarbonizationChile #CCinforma Image and video sources: Foton YouTube channel and Reborn Electric Motors YouTube channel. 🔔 Subscribe to CC Informa to stay up-to-date with the most relevant tech news.
