Choosing Tile that is Easy to Cut

🔶Choosing Tile🔶 There are a lot of opinions on this one 😄 Design is everything for sure....but if you want to make setting tile less frustrating, choose a tile that can cut easily and be more forgiving with imperfections I remember my first problematic marble-look-a-like cheap porcelain tile job like it was yesterday 😄 It was an absolute nightmare.... No matter what wet saw, blade, snap cutter or grinder wheel I used, I could not prevent chipping I ended up needing 200 sqft of this tile for a standard shower that should have only needed 120 sqft This was a very dense cheap porcelain tile It's very tough to tell whether you will have issues with a tile till you take it home and try it out That's why I recommend if you plan to go to a box store to buy tile (not special ordering) take a piece home and try it out before committing. I would avoid red clay based tiles if you can They can chip easily, and if there's an exposed cut it can be tough to hide the bright red base Porcelain tiles are the most common tiles out there today If you choose one with more rounded edges & semi-textured it will be easier to cut & hide imperfections Textured porcelain tiles with rounded edges are very easy tile to cut & hide imperfections It kind of mimics stone, so even if you did have a chip, it's tough to tell Using pencil trim pieces around the shower niche makes cutting easier too Cuts around the niche can easily be hidden when grouting to the pencil trim pieces In my experience, most of the porcelain stone look a like tiles make cutting and setting very easy 👍 Glass accents & borders complicates things, You will need a wet saw to cut glass nicely Ceramic tiles are the easiest to cut A wet saw is usually required for smooth exposed cuts Consider a more forgiving edging with tough to cut tiles Pencil trim pieces are more forgiving than a schluter metal edging or bull nose 👍 My latest saw to test out, the IQ 10" Dry saw - https://amzn.to/3qFFmvn 🎓Enroll in the Tub/Shower Replacement Course - https://bathroomremodeling.teachable....
