Merlino was previously charged with a violation of his supervised release, for which he served a year in prison. The charge was related to him having interactions with a convicted felon, a breach of parole rules. Vlad questioned Merlino about figures like Lewis Tara and Anthony Tura - both arrested for plotting to kill him. Tura was later shot dead outside a federal courthouse, a crime for which Merlino was charged but got acquitted of, as he states the jury did not believe the witnesses and the evidence against him was weak.
