Between 1959-1973: Otto Klemperer was appointed Music Director for life and then Principal Conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra. In spite of the imposing size of this symphony orchestra, Klemperer has always succeeded in combining power and musical intimacy. He delivers the most charming "Siegfried-Idyll" of the entire discography. We have the impression that we are listening to a chamber orchestra with an intimate and shimmering sound. The new mastering allows us to appreciate all the orchestral colors of the Philharmonia as well as the superb acoustics of London's Kingsway Hall and the warmth of the EMI recordings. Here is a Wagner laid bare, intimate, deep and powerful: the music, and only the music.
