East African states focus on growth and reforms in 2026/2027 financial year

East African Community member states have presented their 2026/27 national budgets, outlining spending plans aimed at sustaining economic growth, creating jobs, and strengthening resilience amid a challenging global environment. In Tanzania, the government tabled a 23.7 billion US dollar budget for the 2026/27 financial year, marking an increase of nearly eight percent from the previous year. Officials say the budget prioritizes tighter fiscal discipline, stronger domestic revenue collection, and continued policy reforms, as governments across the region seek to boost self-reliance in financing development.
