New Danish monarchs must 'show they are relevant' in modern society
TV2 Denmark’s Europe Correspondent Jesper Steinmetz says Crown Princess Mary and Prince Frederik will need to show they are relevant as monarchs in a modern society. The royal couple will become the King and Queen of Denmark next week. “In so many ways it’s kind of contradictory to have a monarchy in a modern welfare state like the Danish one,” Mr Steinmetz told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. “The Danes tend to think we are very equal, that no one is above anyone else. “So in that respect it is kind of absurd that everyone, nine out of ten, loves the royal family, but that love is dependent on how they behave.”
