She takes leftover strips from a straight rail fence block and make some mitered blocks for one example of how to do a mitered quilt. She then takes a black and white jellyroll to create strips and blocks for the next example. This example is available as a pattern on www.onpoint-tv.com/shop along with a straight rail fence pattern with applique. She played with the layout on the EQ software which helps her decide on the color of the sashing and borders. When you make a mitered rail fence, you will end up with opposites. Depending on the layout, you may need to make more mitered blocks to be in the direction you need. Nancy shows you how to make the mitered blocks. Use a large ruler with a diagonal line to help with squaring up the block while cutting.
