Addio allo smartphone sul manubrio! Ecco lo schermo touch con Carplay e Android auto di Interphone
Interphone recently launched a highly anticipated product. It's called Ridesync, and it's a color touchscreen that can easily be mounted on any motorcycle to provide Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. We tested it and present it to you in this video. WHAT IS RIDESYNC? Interphone's new Ridesync fills a gap that was becoming increasingly felt, particularly in the middle ground between smartphones and navigation devices for motorcycle navigation. The use of mobile phone apps has recently taken over pure navigation devices thanks to their convenience and the fact that, for better or for worse, we always have our smartphones with us, while our navigation devices often don't. However, the limitations, or rather, the critical points, are well known: the phone is not designed to be exposed to vibrations and atmospheric agents, nor to be used for hours in the sun. Furthermore, visibility is not optimized for this use. The first screens equipped with CarPlay and Android Auto have been available for some time now, thanks to the initiative of Chinese manufacturers. In recent months, however, we've seen the first products of this type made by well-known and respected brands. Among these, the first to hit the market was Interphone. In brief, the Ridesync is a 5.5-inch color capacitive touchscreen display. It has a sturdy body, yet its dimensions (slightly thicker than a cell phone) and weight (182 grams) are kept to a minimum. It doesn't have an internal battery, an internal GPS module, or even a camera (unlike some competitors), making it simpler, more practical, and quicker to install and use. It's powered by 12V and comes with two cables: one to connect it to the motorcycle battery or, alternatively, one to connect it to the USB port. The included mount is the Quiklox "handlebar," suitable for most handlebars and available in various thicknesses. If we have clip-on handlebars or other special needs, we can count on the Quiklox catalog, which covers all scenarios. OK, BUT WHAT IS IT FOR? Its purpose is to offer CarPlay (or Android Auto, of course) for the motorcycle, and we can have it always or only when we need it. This allows us to always use our phone for navigation, but rather than expose it, Ridesync takes all the risks for it. Not only that, visibility is significantly improved, and the graphics are simplified, designed for use while riding. In addition to being able to use our favorite navigation app, we can also listen to our music or messages, especially if we also have an intercom connected to the phone. In short: fewer distractions, greater ease of use, and a robust product designed for this use. DOES IT REALLY WORK? Yes, we found it to be an effective product and appreciated its practicality. The advantages are fairly easy to understand. If we were to highlight any limitations, they are all easily overcome. For example, the lack of an internal battery isn't a limitation because it's not something we need to program; we do everything from the smartphone. However, the glove functionality isn't always effective, but to be honest, we don't often press the buttons while driving. The screen's visibility is good, but you have to find the right position on the handlebars to eliminate any reflections. Finally, it can't be rotated and used vertically because it doesn't have gyroscopes, and for example, this author prefers this mode when navigating. The list price is €249. Perhaps we would have hoped it would cost a little less, but it's certainly already much cheaper than the smartphone we'd normally put on the handlebars. • Feature by Nicola Andreetto with the participation of Alberto Raverdino. • Filming and editing by Andrea Beuzer.
