Steranko and Adams-Comic Book Revolutionaries!
Tales From My Spinner Rack rockets into the new year with Episode 27, “Steranko & Adams: Comic Book Revolutionaries!, which takes a look back at the tumultuous 1960s and the two artists who revolutionized superhero comics in the latter half of that decade, Jim Steranko and Neal Adams. Steranko started first at Marvel on Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. in 1966 with Adams quickly becoming one of the definitive artists on both Batman and Superman over at DC. Their individualistic styles and stellar storytelling techniques changed the way comics looked almost 60 years ago. This video takes a look at how different their art was for the time period and takes a deep dive into both artists’ careers, both in comics and outside of the industry. Steranko did only about 30 stories for Marvel, but they are of such high quality and so inventive, they’ve become classics. Adams defined the look of Batman and Superman for years, and his Green Lantern/Green Arrow stories, along with his work on Deadman, are high-water marks for DC Comics in the sixties and just about any other decade.
