FSB officers detained two Russian citizens in the Republic of Crimea on suspicion of treason. It was established that a Yalta resident, born in 1967 in the Mykolaiv region, initiated contact with an SBU officer via WhatsApp. On instructions from her handler, she set up a cache on the peninsula in which she hid components of an improvised explosive device and transmitted the location's coordinates to the enemy. The cache was subsequently used by the SBU to organize the bombing of a Russian Black Sea Fleet serviceman's vehicle in Sevastopol in 2024. The second suspect, a 34-year-old resident of the Kirovsky district of the Republic of Crimea, transferred 5,000 hryvnias from her account at a Ukrainian bank to the Ukrainian Armed Forces for the purchase of radios, uniforms, ammunition, and other equipment. In addition to financial support, the detainee collected information about the fuel and energy infrastructure, a military airfield, and other military facilities of the Russian Armed Forces located in Crimea. She planned to send this information to a relative, an employee of the State Border Service of Ukraine, but was detained by Russian FSB officers before she could do so. The Investigative Department of the Russian FSB Directorate for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol has opened criminal cases against the detainees under Article 275 (high treason in the form of providing financial, material, technical, consultative, or other assistance to a foreign state, an international or foreign organization, or their representatives in activities directed against the security of the Russian Federation) of the Russian Criminal Code.
