Awas Bisa Sebabkan Komplikasi, Kenali Gerd Penyakit Lambung Kronis

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - Acid reflux disease (GERD), often referred to as stomach acid reflux, is on the rise in Indonesia due to unhealthy lifestyles. A high-stress lifestyle and a diet high in fatty foods are believed to trigger gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Acid reflux occurs due to various factors, including excessive stomach acid production, slow gastric emptying, and a malfunctioning lower esophageal valve, which prevents food or acid from rising into the stomach. While GERD is not life-threatening, it does reduce quality of life by disrupting daily activities. If left untreated, GERD can lead to various complications, as the reflux can irritate the esophageal wall, causing the resulting ulcer to gradually widen and even cause narrowing of the lower esophagus. Symptoms of acid reflux are usually characterized by heartburn, a pain and burning sensation in the chest caused by stomach acid rising into the esophagus. Then there's regurgitation, or a bitter taste caused by acid in the back of the mouth or throat. Then there's bad breath, difficulty swallowing, a chronic cough, and even heartburn. If symptoms of acid reflux persist despite taking medication, GERD sufferers should see a doctor immediately so they can take prescribed stomach acid medication.
