Kribensis Cichlid Fish Care Overview + Easy Care Guide
Hello everyone! It's Pierre and welcome back to the channel This video shows a pair of Kribensis Cichlids that I recently picked up. They are small and beautiful fish with great personalities. What's even more amazing is that they are very hardy and fairly easy to breed! Kribensis Cichlids (Pelvicachromis pulcher) are native to Africa, particularly Nigeria and Cameroon. They inhabit a wide variety of aquatic biotopes including rivers and streams as well as lakes and ponds with dense vegetation. This is most likely why they are very adaptable and hardy - perfect for the home aquarium and even beginning fishkeepers. You will need at least a 20 or 29 gallon tank to house a pair of them. Strong filtration and some hardy plants are appreciated (although my Kribensis love eating duckweed). I keep my Kribensis cichlids in half of a divided 75 gallon tank. They can be good community fish with the right tankmates - choose fish that are fast, hardy and of similar size. I keep mine with guppies (some of the fry are eaten but otherwise the adults are left alone save for some random chasing) Kribensis develop beautiful, vibrant colors and are quite mesmerizing to observe! They learn to recognize their owners and beg for food as well. Kribensis Cichlid Care Basics: Tank Size - 20-29 gallons for one pair —bigger is always better Temp - 75°F - 79°F (24°C - 26°C) Diet - High-quality pellets, algae wafers, flakes and live food. Filtration - Good filtration as they are cichlids and can be a little messy. Social - Can be kept in a community tank that is large enough —watch for aggression especially when Kribensis pair up and start breeding. Decor - They appreciate crevices, caves and other hiding spots Breeding - Easy! The female lays eggs which they guard. Leave a comment, drop a like and hit subscribe if you enjoy the content!
