Most visitors to Sacré-Cœur arrive at the front steps, take their photos, look out at Paris and leave. We did something different. We walked the entire way around. Sacré-Cœur sits at the very top of Montmartre — the highest point in Paris — and it is one of the most extraordinary buildings in the city. But there is so much more to it than the famous white domes and the view from the steps. The history of why it was built. The self-cleaning stone that has kept it brilliantly white for over 130 years. The 12th century church right next door that most visitors walk straight past.
