The BJP-led NDA has dramatically expanded its political dominance across India since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. New data shows that the alliance now controls more than 61% of all MLAs in the country, compared to just over 50% after the general elections. The BJP alone has increased its tally from 1,532 MLAs to 1,813, while key NDA allies have also posted significant gains following multiple Assembly election victories. Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc has witnessed a sharp decline in strength, with its MLA count falling from 1,603 to 1,011. Electoral setbacks, alliance breakdowns, and the exits of parties such as the DMK and AAP have further weakened the Opposition's position.
