We were enjoying the amazing scenery and all that was left was to head home... but... Mom's Rebel 1100 DCT is having trouble. Explanation of the Situation She almost stopped at a red light, but then the light turned green and she accelerated. At that moment, Mom yelled, "Dad! Something's wrong with the bike! It won't go any faster!" From what I could see, it looked like it was overlapping. Then she said, "There's a light I've never seen before!" The engine check light seemed to have come on. I managed to get the bike running smoothly and evacuated to a side street. Afterwards, I took it for a test drive, but the problem didn't recur, but the engine check light remained. I consulted the motorcycle shop, and they told me, "The engine check light is on, so it's best not to drive it yourself, just to be safe." "You can use roadside assistance, so I'll call a tow truck." "Please stop," he said. After arranging for a tow truck and waiting, I did some online research. I found other people with the same symptoms (more than one). Based on their experiences, it seems likely that the problem was caused by an FI fuel mismatch. From Numata, over Mount Akagi, and down to Maebashi, I rode over such a large elevation change in one go that the Rebel's brain couldn't keep up, leading to poor fuel mismatch. (I was a little surprised that something like this could happen on a modern bike.) Some people had their engine check light go off after restarting it several times, but it didn't go off on my mom's Rebel. If the fuel mixture reaches the optimum level for the area while I'm riding, there shouldn't be any problems with riding, but having the engine check light on isn't good for my mental health. So this time, I opted for a tow truck. Most modern bikes are so smart that even the slightest change will alert me (and light up the check lamp) that something is wrong. I remember back in the day, even if I'd set the carburetor perfectly on flat ground, it would start making a rumbling noise when I went touring at higher altitudes (lol). Then I got a call from the bike shop. They pulled up the error data and it turned out to be a misfire. This was consistent with the information online. I told them my speculation and the information online, and the bike shop quickly looked into it and said I was probably right. Several other similar cases have been confirmed... This also tends to happen after riding over hills and hills... It also seems to happen in the Africa and NT, which use the same engine... It doesn't matter if it's a manual or dual-clutch transmission. Apparently, it's also a problem. A few other models, like the Rebel 250 and CB400SF... Basically, if the symptoms have improved, it seems like there's no problem continuing to ride. It's worth keeping in mind if you own a recent Honda. The bike shop said, "It would be nice if the manufacturer came up with a program to fix it, but it's hard to say." My husband and I often ride at high altitudes, so I hope they can do something about it... So it was just a minor issue (lol).
