Stanley Cowell plays "Wail" by Bud Powell
Stanley Cowell plays "WAIL" - here is another solo on the Bud Powell composition "Wail" - this time by Stanley Cowell who treats it very differently from the original recording. The tempo is slower allowing for more rhythmic variety and the bridge has been re-harmonized (dominant chords descend by half-steps instead of going through the circle of fifths) which allows him to approach this part of the tune in a rather unique way. Lots of quarter note triplet action going over the middle of the bar and over the bar lines as well which serves to blur the time even though everything is always perfectly locked in with the rhythm section (Santi Debriano and Joe Chambers)
