Every single time the Petit KOM shows up on the race schedule, I tell myself today is the day I stay with the front group. But at 89kg, gravity has a funny way of checking your ego. Is 89kg just too much to carry over a relentless climb in Category B? Today was Stage 2 of the Zwift Tour Fever series on the challenging Casse-Pattes route in France. The game plan for this event was the usual: draft like my life depended on it and save as much gas for that damn climb. Aside from misjudging my gravity-assisted ability to catch up with the pack right after the Aqueduc KOM, I did exactly that. But that there cost me a serious burned match that I simply could not afford. By the time the road tilted up again, the tank was emptier than it should have been. Oh well, at least there's always Stage 4 (Hell of the North) where I have yet again another shot at Petit. At least with that one, the finish is at the top of the KOM and not a few miles after like it was today. You can bet I will be emptying the tank on that one!
