I honestly believe what I'm going to say in this video is super important, and what I say here is what I tell a lot of my close friends IRL. Imposter syndrome is the persistent inability to believe that one's success is deserved or has been legitimately achieved as a result of one's own efforts or skills. This can really get in the way at work in general, especially at tech in 2 big ways. The first way is it will prevent you from even applying. Many people feel they aren't worthy of a job if they don't meet over 50%-75% of the job reqs, so they don't even apply. The second major scenario where imposter syndrome appears is when you start a new job. Haven't learned all the nuance, everyone else seems to know what they are doing, giving you the illusion that you might be inept or somehow worse than others I experience imposter syndrome fairly regularly, whether is when I'm applying for a new job or starting a new job, but after job hopping so any times, there's something very very interesting I've come to realize over the years. I'll explain with an illustration Say this circle is the job description for a security engineer. Say you only fulfil this portion of the circle. Maybe this is about 25% of the skill listed in the JD. However, your actual skill set in its entirety, is equal to this circle. I've found that employers will often hire you based on THIS, not on THIS. If you're watching this, and you've experienced this too and agree, please like this video right now! This is a very important realization I've made. If you can properly convey this on your resume and articulate it in the interview, you might as well have filled the whole JD circle up. Obviously tech skill is important, but your circle doesn't have to have only tech skill in it, it can have punctuality, empathy, kindness, organization, coachability, proactivity, communication skills, a pleasant demeanor
