Plastic Fantastic: The AMT Piranha Was A Freaky Fast Oddball 1960s Funny Car
Drag racing in the 1960s was a huge, nitro powered experiment. Nowhere was this more evident than with funny cars. Long before corporate sponsors, people made loads and loads of weird and wonderful home-built entires into the class. This is the story of a funny car with a truly plastic body, the first and only of its kind ever made. It was the combo of a massive industrial company, a model company, a group of hot rodders, and a failed bid to change the way production cars were made that created this wild machine. Burning 95% nitro, using an open cockpit, a chassis that weighed 68lbs, and some of the best hands and minds in hot rodding, the car wasn't just weird...it was blazing fast. Here's the story of the AMT Piranha.
