Is new any better than Old? Microtech Zero Blade Play vs. Original Ultratech.

Join this channel / @cbrxlive This video compares the new Microtech Ultratech ZBT (Zero Blade Tolerance) - recently renamed to ZBP (Zero Blade Play) - knife with the original Ultratech model, testing their performance in various harsh conditions to determine if the ZBT system offers any significant improvements (0:09). The presenter subjects the ZBP knife to a series of "four elements" tests: • Water and Air (Wind): The knife was immersed in murky water and exposed to wind. It failed to retract on the third try after being in water, highlighting a unique clearing mechanism for ZBP knives where the blade needs to be shaken to clear jams, unlike traditional knives where it can be pulled forward (1:02-2:50). The wind did not affect its functionality (1:13). • Human Factor (Sheer Stupidity): The knife was subjected to forward stress by hitting it with a stick, simulating a common but ill-advised test seen in other reviews. Wood chips entered the mechanism through large holes in the back, causing it to fail to fully retract. However, the knife's design, with "pistons" on the blade, allowed the debris to be eventually cleared by shaking, restoring functionality (3:00-5:40). • Dirt: The knife was thoroughly exposed to wet dirt. Similar to the wood chip test, shaking the knife violently was the only way to clear the jam, and it eventually regained functionality (5:50-7:00). The presenter concludes that despite the "Zero Tolerance" name, the ZBP knife has plenty of internal clearances that allow it to function even when dirty (6:47-6:58). He asserts that the ZBT system does not make the knife inherently "better" than previous Microtech models, and it performs similarly to older versions, even slightly worse in dirt (8:00-8:18, 11:25-11:34). The video also shows a direct comparison between the old and new models in dirt, reinforcing the idea that the original Ultratech performed slightly better when dirty (11:25-11:34). The video suggests that the new ZBP knives are a marketing "gimmick" and encourages viewers to take advantage of sales on older Microtech models, as they offer comparable or even better performance in real-world, dirty conditions (8:00-8:18, 8:50-12 Is this the next gimmick created by the industry to sell more knives or the best thing since reelection? This video is a must-see if you’re considering dumping the $390 into the new OTF locking system - Zero Blade Tolerance on the recently released Ultratech ZBT.
