Amidst these opportunities and concerns, the Government of India passed the Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation (PROG) Act, 2025 in August 2025. The purpose of this law is clear—to make India a global hub of gaming and innovation, while also protecting citizens, especially youth, from online financial risks. Now, under Section 19 of this Act, new rules have been enacted—the Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Rules, 2026, which will come into effect from May 1, 2026.
