One of the most spectacular drives yet on the legendary Alaska Highway through the Northern Rockies.
One of the most spectacular drives yet on the legendary Alaska Highway through the Northern Rockies. YouTube Description: Day 11 of our Alaska Overland Adventure delivered what may have been the most breathtaking drive of the trip so far. What we expected to be a simple 4½-hour travel day quickly became a true Alaska Highway experience as we encountered the rough roads, gravel sections, and incredible scenery that make the Alaska Highway legendary among overlanders, RV travelers, and road trippers. Our day began in Fort Nelson, British Columbia, with a classic breakfast at Tim Hortons before stopping at the Visitor Information Centre to gather local tips and recommendations for the journey ahead. Armed with some great insider knowledge, we continued west into the stunning Northern Rocky Mountains, where every turn revealed another incredible view. Today’s drive showcased exactly why so many travelers consider the Alaska Highway one of the world’s great road trips. Towering mountains, winding valleys, dramatic landscapes, and endless wilderness surrounded us for miles. While rough gravel road sections and a semi-truck left our Jeep and SylvanSport GO camper coated in dust, the spectacular scenery more than made up for it. Along the way, we stopped at Double G Service for fuel and discovered what may be the largest grilled cheese sandwich we’ve ever seen—a massive grilled cheese with ham that was absolutely delicious and easily big enough for two meals. By afternoon, we arrived at beautiful Liard River Hot Springs Provincial Park, one of the most famous stops along the Alaska Highway. Site 34 turned out to be a perfect campsite nestled among the trees. With no water hookups and no electricity, this is exactly the kind of peaceful camping experience we enjoy while traveling with our SylvanSport GO. After setting up camp and the GOzebo, we relaxed for the evening and enjoyed the second half of our enormous grilled cheese sandwich for dinner. Tomorrow we’ll spend the entire day exploring and soaking in the famous Liard River Hot Springs, one of the must-visit destinations for anyone driving the Alaska Highway to Alaska. In today’s video, we’ve included several clips from this unforgettable drive through the Northern Rockies. While no camera can truly capture the scale and beauty of these landscapes, we hope these scenes give you a glimpse of what it’s like to travel this incredible route.
