We'll recall the earliest glaciation, when the young planet was first covered in ice (the Huronian glaciation). We'll visit the eras of "Snowball Earth," when the ice sheet reached all the way to the equator. We'll discuss the Ordovician and late Paleozoic cooling periods, and how glaciers came and went, causing massive changes in ocean life, climate, and evolution. And, of course, we'll look to the recent past and present: the Pleistocene glaciers still shape our world, and glaciers still creep along the slopes of Greenland and Antarctica. Why does the Earth freeze so often? Can everything manifest itself? And how are glaciers, volcanoes, and the biosphere connected?
