Not Suitable For Idiots | Triumph Speed Triple 1200RS
The weather was as perfect as you can get in winter, glorious sunshine but cold at a high of 6 degrees. When I set off out on the Triumph Speed Triple 1200RS the roads were covered in ice and the TFT dash informed me it was just 2 degrees and that I should watch out for ice. Having ridden it the last couple of days in similar conditions, I felt relaxed in the bikes technical rider aids and although cautious was not unduly concerned. When filming you always have to be aware of the damning evidence your camera holds so a steady ride was all that was required. Steady on the 1200RS is perhaps a little quicker than most bikes but I had a great day riding through the Suffolk and Norfolk country side without the bike breaking a sweat. In a video I had seen previously someone had suggested that this bike was not suitable for beginners, whilst it depends on the definition of a beginner, ride this bike with respect and it is an absolute pussy cat and anyone with a sensible head and a year or so of riding mid size bikes under their belt shouldnt have any issues with it and in fact could learn an awful lot from it. Disrespect the 180 horses and ride like an idiot then even with all the sophisticated electrickery it would chew you up and spit you out with without a moments hesitation. In short, this bike offers everything a beginner would want, wheelie control, abs and traction control that even works on a tilt, its light, nimble with brakes that could stop a train and suspension that can make it feel like a magic carpet and handle like a dream. However, what it cant do is control your brain, it cant pick your line or tell you you are going to fast. Perhaps it is this that makes it not suitable for a beginner but then isn’t that the same for any motorcycle? @OfficialTriumph @lings_suffolk_triumph Basic Specs MAX POWER - 183 PS / 180.5 bhp (134.6 kW) @ 10,750 rpm MAX TORQUE - 128 Nm @ 8,750 rpm Twin-spar frame, aluminium, bolt-on aluminium rear subframe Single-sided, cast aluminium FRONT WHEEL Cast aluminium, 17 x 3.50 in REAR WHEEL Cast aluminium, 17 x 6.00 in FRONT TYRE Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V3 - 120/70ZR17 58W REAR TYRE Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V3 - 190/55ZR17 75W FRONT SUSPENSION Öhlins 43 mm upside-down forks, fully adjustable, SmartEC3 OBTi electronic compression and rebound damping, 120 mm wheel travel REAR SUSPENSION Öhlins monoshock (RSU) with linkage, SmartEC3 OBTi system electronic compression and rebound damping, 120 mm wheel travel FRONT BRAKES Twin, 320 mm floating discs, Brembo Stylema monobloc calipers, Brembo MCS radial master cylinder, OC-ABS REAR BRAKES Single, 220 mm disc, Brembo, twin-piston caliper (2 x 26mm), OCABS INSTRUMENTS 5-inch, TFT, full colour SEAT HEIGHT - 830 mm WET WEIGHT - 199 kg FUEL CAPACITY - 15.5 litres Fuel consumption MILEAGE - 51.4 mpg (though I never saw that, more like 40-45 mpg) Standard Equipment 5-inch TFT display, 5 riding modes: rain, road, sport, track, rider, Adjustable steering damper, Braking Slide Assist (in Track Mode), Emergency deceleration warning, Engine Braking Control, Front wheel lift control, Fully adjustable cruise control, Fully keyless system with disable option, LED dual headlight and distinctive rear light, Lightweight Li-ion battery, My Triumph connectivity system, ÖHLINS Smart EC 3.0 semi-active suspension , Switchable optimised cornering ABS and traction control, Triumph Shift Assist, Bar-end mirrors with vibration isolation Instagram: https://instagram.com/the_all_year_mo...
