JBA Trust Augmented Reality (AR) Sandbox – how topography affects water moving through a river basin

Our Augmented Reality (AR) sandbox is an interactive visualisation tool that shows how topography affects water moving through a river basin. By shaping real sand, participants can create their own landscapes which are then ‘augmented’ in real time by a projector, creating a coloured elevation map and contour lines. Holding a hand above the sand will make ‘virtual rain’, the virtual water flows across the land in real time making it possible to explore how changes in land use affect flooding.
