Hamza Yusuf interrupted at Islamic convention

Prominent Muslim scholar Hamza Yusuf faced opposition at the Reviving the Islamic Spirit Convention in Canada for his stance on Israel’s war on Gaza. Some people in the audience interrupted his speech, accusing him of undermining the Palestinian cause. In 2020, Yusuf received a wave of criticism for publicly supporting the UAE’s choice to establish relations with Israel, a decision that was widely criticised by many Muslim religious authorities. Yusuf has previously courted controversy by positing blame on the Palestinians for their suffering, mocking the Syrian uprising, and for having referred to the UAE as country that was “committed to tolerance”.
