The King of Prussia Mall in Pennsylvania began as an open-air plaza called The Court, anchored by Strawbridge & Clothier, JCPenney, and Korvette. An enclosed section called The Plaza soon opened across the street with Gimbels, Wanamaker’s, and Bloomingdale’s. The two centers later merged into one massive complex, underwent major renovations and expansions, and added a luxury connector wing featuring high-end brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Hermès plus a modern food hall. Today it remains the largest shopping mall in the United States by retail space, with over 450 stores, anchors including Macy’s, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Primark, and is fully owned by Simon Property Group. It’s named after the historic 18th-century King of Prussia Inn nearby, not a real monarch.
