Чим утеплити будинок: Мінеральна базальтова вата - всі плюси та мінуси
HOW TO INSULATE YOUR HOUSE: ALL THE PROS AND CONS OF MINERAL WOOL Mineral wool, like polystyrene, is one of the most common materials for home insulation. Watch this video to the end and we will tell you what advantages and, most importantly, what disadvantages this insulation has and whether it is worth using it. We have also prepared an interesting raffle with a nice gift for you, don't miss it. When talking about mineral wool, words are often heard about its 100% environmental friendliness. Is it really so? Basalt is used to produce mineral wool - a volcanic rock, which in itself is a pure environmental material. However, this material cannot be called "completely safe for health". Firstly, some manufacturers add special chemical components to improve the characteristics of the final product. Secondly, if it were about complete safety, then working with cotton wool would not require protection of hands, eyes and lungs. That is, mineral wool can be called relatively environmentally friendly compared to polystyrene, but not completely harmless to health, as they say. Work in a respirator and carefully read the product safety certificate to see if the cotton wool contains hazardous additives. Mineral wool has an important characteristic - it does not burn in a fire. Thanks to this, it has become a popular thermal insulation material for insulation of frame or wooden houses. Mineral wool is also used to make "safety belts" in multi-storey buildings insulated with polystyrene. This is done so that in the event of a fire, the fire does not cover the entire building, but stops on the mineral wool belt. Remember, the mere presence of mineral wool in the structure of the house is not a guarantee of fire safety. Pay attention to other aspects. Mineral wool, which has high vapor permeability, can be used to insulate various bases, including those that do not allow vapor to pass through well. However, this insulation works especially well on bases with high vapor permeability, for example, in wooden and frame houses. Cotton wool easily and without problems passes moisture, but it is very unstable to direct contact with water. Due to its porous structure, it quickly absorbs it, which leads to an instant loss of thermal insulation properties. To avoid this, mineral wool must be reliably protected from the outside. It is better to use silicone-based materials that have high water resistance for this. It is precisely because of this instability to water that mineral wool is not used to insulate basements and basement floors. Important note! Store mineral wool only under a canopy before starting insulation! Rain getting on the material will make it unsuitable for effective use. It should be said right away that rodents do not eat other insulation materials either. They gnaw through them to make nests inside. They also use mineral wool for such purposes, although not as willingly as polystyrene. That is, as in the case of fire safety, the presence of wool in the structure of the house is not a guarantee of protection. Other measures must be taken to protect your home from rodents. Mineral wool has a porous structure that perfectly dampens various airborne noises. However, if your house is located, for example, next to a railway, then the wool will not be able to effectively absorb vibration noises. This requires additional protective measures. Mineral wool is an excellent thermal insulation material, but it is very sensitive to the correct installation technology and requires the master to have good experience and sufficient training. The weakest point of this insulation is the seams. They must be reliably processed so that the cold does not penetrate the house through them. Mineral wool can be called an inconvenient material to work with. Firstly, working with it requires protection of the eyes, hands, and respiratory tract. Secondly, it is quite difficult to insulate houses with complex architecture and structural solutions with wool. Therefore, it gets a minus for this. Mineral wool has low adhesive properties compared to, for example, foam plastic, so that all layers of the insulation system work reliably, it is necessary to use high-quality glue and adhere to the technology of its application. The entire slab must be covered with glue, not just part of it. The reinforcing mesh must be "embedded in glue", and not covered with it only on one side. For more information about this, see our video at the link. We also recommend using silicone primer before applying the decorative layer, which should also consist of silicone-based materials. That is, compared to foam plastic, insulation with mineral wool is more expensive and this must be taken into account.
