President Herzog Speech at the Romanian Parlament
The President of the State in his historic speech to the Romanian Parliament: "Iran's aspiration to become a nuclear threshold state is a real threat to the State of Israel, and Iran's pretension to dictate the future of Lebanon harms the possibility of moving towards peace and security" The President added: "The recent memorandum of understanding between Israel and Lebanon is a significant breakthrough for peace, and can serve as a cornerstone for the rest of the path. It requires the elimination of Hezbollah and allows for the creation of a basis for a genuine peace agreement between the countries. I commend the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, for their leadership in this war" As part of his state visit to Romania, President of the State, Isaac Herzog, delivered a historic speech to the Romanian Parliament today, Monday, the 14th of Tammuz, June 29. Upon his arrival at the Palace of the Parliament, the President of the State met with the President of the Senate, Mircea Avrodian. The President also met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sorin-Mihai Grindeanu, and other senior government officials. From the words of President Isaac Herzog: "I thank President Nicosher Dan for his invitation to visit the Republic of Romania. As President of the State of Israel, I stand here representing a country, a people, and centuries of deep history, which binds our peoples together, in solidarity, trust, goodwill, and hope. Here, in Romania, in the city of Iasi, the Jewish poet Naftali Herz Imber wrote the first draft of what would later become the national anthem of the State of Israel. He called the song "Tekvetnu" - Our Hope. Naftali Herz Imber inscribed these words in the national story of the Jewish people and in the conscience of all humanity, when he argued that our hope is not yet lost. When the most barbaric attack against the Jewish people since the Holocaust took place on October 7, Romania's response was clear and unequivocal. Romania's leadership immediately and without reservation condemned the Hamas massacre, standing as a beacon of humanity and a beacon of hope. Hope in our darkest hour. Romania has repeatedly demonstrated extraordinary human solidarity in the complex struggle to free our hostages, who were brutally held in the Gaza tunnels. Romania's principled position is exactly what is required of the international community at this point in time, given the geopolitical reality in which we live. Because today there is no longer any doubt: the threat posed by the Iranian regime and its sympathizers goes far beyond the Middle East. It threatens global stability, freedom of navigation and democracies. The Americans and the Israelis went to war against Iran to prevent it from obtaining nuclear weapons, and to prevent this evil empire and its sympathizers from threatening all peace-loving countries in the Middle East. I commend the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, for their leadership in this war. I would like to emphasize to you and to the world: Israel is not opposed to a diplomatic solution to the war. On the contrary. We We seek peace. We dream of peace within all our borders - this is our most cherished hope and the deepest wish of our hearts. But Iran's ambition to become a nuclear border state is a real threat to Israel, and Iran's pretensions to dictate the future of Lebanon undermine the possibility of moving towards peace and security. The recent memorandum of understanding between Israel and Lebanon, signed in Washington a few days ago, is a significant breakthrough for peace, and can serve as a cornerstone for the future. It requires the elimination of Hezbollah and allows for the creation of a basis for a genuine peace agreement between the countries. I thank President Trump, Secretary of State Rubio, and the US administration for leading this important step, and I call on the European Union and the international community to support it, to support the stability and economy of Lebanon, and the security of Israel. I thank the Government of Romania for standing shoulder to shoulder with Israel, for the strength of the region, and for the moral structure that we have all worked to build, and for discussing the issue at length. Today with the President Dan". Photographer: Roy Avraham, Recorder: Nir Reshef
