WLS Channel 7 - Eight is Enough - "Lost Carrier" (Technical Difficulties, Opening & Break, 1979)
Here's a technical difficulties incident that plagued part of the opening moments of the Eight Is Enough episode "Ten Ships in the Night" (Season 4, Episode 4) on WLS Channel 7. Includes: Station ID with Shedd Auditorium plug, followed by "stay tuned" notice for Eight Is Enough followed by Charlie's Angels (voiceover by Wayne Atkinson) The snafu starts 10 seconds into the start of the show, and lasts (with the image frozen at the point the carrier cut off) for approximately 42 seconds, during which the voiceover (again, by Wayne Atkinson) tries to reassure WLS' audience that they're working to correct the problem. (and perhaps also to reassure that the Soviets did not just destroy New York) ;-) After that, the rest of the airing goes off without a hitch, with the opening scene followed by the opening titles. Commercial: Kellogg's cereals, promoting their Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes and Special K brands - "It's Gonna Be a Great Day" First 13 seconds of next scene, with episode title shown (and copyright notice - Copyright (C) MCMLXXIX Lorimar Productions, Inc. All Rights Reserved.) This aired on local Chicago TV on Wednesday, September 26th 1979 during the 7:00pm to 7:04pm timeframe. This was from a tape donated to The Museum of Classic Chicago Television as part of the Larry Charet Collection. About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television: The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at: http://www.fuzzymemories.tv/index.php...
