Do You Really Need a Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch? | B&W Companion RVK3405 Review & Real-World Test
👉 B&W Companion Slider (RVK3405) https://geni.us/BBURI (Amazon Link) 👉 B&W Companion Fixed Mount (RVK3500) https://geni.us/tUqz (Amazon Link) ______ If you’re running a short-bed truck and towing a 5th wheel, chances are you’ve asked the same question I did. Do you really need a sliding hitch, or will a fixed hitch do the job? In this video, I put the B&W Companion Slider (model RVK3405) to the test after using it all season with our 2025 Grand Design Reflection 100 Series 27BH, which measures 32 feet 3 inches long. My truck setup is a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L Cummins short bed quad cab, and I wanted to find out whether the added cost and weight of the slider were truly worth it. The RVK3405 weighs in at 290 lbs, compared to around 210 lbs for the fixed Companion hitch, so there’s about a 80 lb difference between the two. But the big question is: does that added weight and complexity actually pay off in real-world towing scenarios? I’ll walk through how the hitch performs, the pros and cons I noticed through a full camping season, and whether I’d recommend the slider for short-bed owners or if the fixed mount is enough for most setups. _________________________________________________ 👉 B&W Companion Slider (RVK3405): https://geni.us/BBURI (Amazon Link) 👉 B&W Companion Fixed Mount (RVK3500): https://geni.us/tUqz (Amazon Link) ________________________________________________ 📌 Key Details in This Video: • My towing setup: 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L Cummins short bed • Trailer: 2025 Grand Design Reflection 100 Series 27BH (32’3”) • Hitch weight comparison: RVK3405 – 250 lbs vs Fixed Companion – 200 lbs • Real-world towing feedback after a full camping season • Pros & cons of the sliding design vs fixed position • Tips for safe turning, hitching, and backing with a short-bed truck • Why I ultimately chose the B&W Companion system Whether you’re new to towing a 5th wheel or looking to upgrade your hitch setup, this review will give you a real-world look at how the B&W Slider performs — and whether it’s a worthwhile investment for your rig.
