Imprisoning an English king isn’t the best idea. Just ask the Earl of Warwick.
THIS IS HISTORY — A DYNASTY TO DIE FOR Season 10, Episode 4: The Kingmaker Strikes Back It’s a gorgeous, calculated provocation. In the summer of 1469, in Calais, the Earl of Warwick, marries his daughter Isabel to George, Duke of Clarence, brother and heir to King Edward IV. It’s another shot across the bow to Edward, who doesn’t seem to understand that the kingmaker wants him out. Within weeks, Warwick's rebels crush a royal army at Edgcote and the Kingmaker imprisons the king himself in the Tower of London. England collapses into anarchy. Warwick, humbled, is forced to release Edward. Astonishingly, he is pardoned. More astonishingly, he rebels again. Defeated at Losecoat Field, he flees to France, where he finds an unlikely ally. – As always, Dan’s royal favourites can chime in anytime on the royal court on Patreon at patreon.com/thisishistory. And don’t forget to listen to this season’s accompanying bonus episodes for this miniseries, where Dan and Producer Al discuss the "congenital shitbird” that is George, Duke of Clarence. Plus, Dan settles the rumours about whether Edward IV was really illegitimate after all. – 00:00 A Wedding in Calais 01:42 Rumors of Bastardy 02:16 Warwick’s Grievance 02:48 Anyone for a Coup? 04:36 Become a Royal Favourite 05:10 Don’t F— the Goat 07:04 Warwick’s Many Talents 08:05 Kent Rebels, Again 09:12 Battle of Edgecote Moor 10:19 A King in Custody 11:22 Warwick Seizes England 11:53 London in Chaos 12:40 Siege of Caister Castle 14:12 Why Rule Collapses 16:15 The Coup That Was 18:49 The Battle of Losecoat Field 20:34 Greed and Grievances 22:22 Calais Shuts the Gates 23:16 Louis XI… the New Kingmaker 25:02 Warwick’s Secret Weapon. 25:19 The Great Restoration? 26:10 Make Dan Laugh, Win a Book – A Sony Music Entertainment production.
