This spring flower grows BETTER in containers!

If you want to have the biggest flowers in the neighborhood when nothing else is blooming, you should grow camellia in containers! These subtropical plants get huge in the ground but they’re slow growing which makes them a great candidate for container gardens. They bloom during the coldest weeks of the year & look pretty plain the rest of the time. Growing them in containers gives me the flexibility to put them where I want them... front and center when they are in bloom, and let them fade in the background the rest of the season. Eventually I'll put these in the ground, but I've had my RL Wheeler Camellia in a container for 6 years without a problem & this is the 3rd year for my Ashton High Rise Camellia. Camellias will survive temperatures down to 0F (at least), but their flower buds are damaged during winters with frequent cold snaps in my climate. I bring these plants into the garage during extreme cold to keep them safe and happy!
