Schumann: Humoreske, Op. 20 (Seong-Jin Cho)
Among all Schumann's piano works, the Humoreske has a magnificent writing creativity. Each theme contrasts with the one before it, and the composition is a continual stream of fresh and varied ideas without a moment of silence. In a letter to Clara Wieck Schumann wrote that he had been “sitting at the piano and composing and writing and laughing and crying, all at the same time” speaking about his great Humoreske, we can surely find all of his emotion in this composition. Seong-Jin Cho's playing is simple and impactful, every virtuosistic passage is played with a strong technique, and the more reflective parts have a clean and dry sound. 00:00 - Einfach (Simple) 01:42 - Sehr rasch und leicht (Very fast and light) 02:35 - Noch rascher (Even faster) 05:30 - Hastig (Hastily) 06:04 - Nach und nach immer lebhafter und stärker (Gradually more lively and stronger) 09:57 - Einfach und zart (Simple and delicate) 11:44 - Intermezzo 14:33 - Innig (Heartfelt) 17:05 - Sehr lebhaft (Very lively) 18:58 - Mit einigem Pomp (With some pomp) 20:40 - Zum Beschluss (To the resolution)
