Smascherare i truffatori su WhatsApp: Guida Investigativa 🕵️♀️💻
I find myself very often, both during my digital literacy workshops and when answering requests for help from those who turn to me to protect their data, having to analyze suspicious messages received on my smartphone. WhatsApp has become a favorite hunting ground for scammers, who try to target everyone, from professionals to the most vulnerable, like the elderly. Scam attempts, such as the classic "Hi Dad, I dropped my phone in the toilet, this is my new number" trick, are commonplace. In this video, I want to show you how to activate a real defense shield and "spot" a scammer in no time, analyzing three key elements that leave criminals no escape: the words they use, the origin of their profile picture, and the acid test of the phone call. Vocabulary and Grammar: The First Warning Signs We'll begin by analyzing the text of the message. Often, our haste to act makes us overlook macroscopic details, but scammers almost always leave clear traces in their writing: Spelling errors and machine translations: We'll see how many of these messages are generated by machine translation software or foreign phishing sites. Bizarre sentence structures, incorrectly conjugated verbs, or the use of terms our real family members would never use are the first red flags. Psychological urgency: We'll analyze the tone of the conversation. If the message is rushed, requests immediate money, prepaid card top-ups, or one-time codes (like the infamous 6-digit account transfer code), we're almost certainly dealing with a fraud attempt. Reverse Image Search: Discovering the Photo's True Origin We'll then move on to a very simple yet powerful investigative technique that allows you to unmask the sender's identity based on their WhatsApp profile photo: Isolating the Profile Photo: We'll see how to save or screenshot the photo used by the alleged contact (which often depicts a fake support worker, a beautiful woman, or a stolen social media profile image of a relative). Using Image Search Engines: I'll show you how to perform a reverse image search (using free tools accessible from any phone). This way, we can determine if the photo was copied from a stock photo website, if it belongs to an unsuspecting person living on the other side of the world, or if it has already been reported online for other scams. The ultimate test: Repeat the call to the number We'll conclude the video with the ultimate test, the one that instantly shatters any house of lies built by the attacker: Refusal of voice communication: I'll explain why scammers always make excuses for not speaking (claiming a broken microphone, being in a crowded office, or having no signal for regular calls). Trying to call directly: We'll see what happens when we try to make a standard call or video call to that unknown number. The scammer will never answer to avoid being identified or playing a voice that clearly doesn't match the person they're pretending to be. In 2026, cybersecurity and privacy protection depend primarily on our ability to stay calm, verify sources, and never act impulsively when faced with a screen. Have you ever received one of those strange messages on WhatsApp that smelled like a scam from a mile away? Were you able to block them in time?
