The Forgotten Black Woman Who Tracked and Killed 31 Fugitives Alone|Tartary Codex777

#BlackHistory #AmericanFrontier #TrueCrimeHistory #WildWest #ForgottenHistory In the fall of 1878, a farmer plowing a dry Arkansas creek bed uncovered a Sharps carbine wrapped in a rotted cotton sack—stitched inside with 11 names in rust-colored thread. Nine of those names matched federal death warrants. The other two had vanished from history. At the bottom of the sack, underlined three times, was a name no serious historian would admit belonged to a woman. That woman was Hester, called Nani by the Choctaw—the only female bounty hunter on the American frontier whose name made outlaws bury their weapons and run for the Mexican border. Born into slavery on a Mississippi plantation around 1840, she escaped in 1864, taught herself to track and shoot, and spent five years delivering more than 31 federal fugitives to the Fort Smith jail—or leaving only a filed bone bead where the body should have been. This forgotten true story follows Hester from a cotton field in Yazoo County through the lawless Indian Territory, from the brutal overseer she left for dead to the seven men she hunted one by one, ending with a secret so disturbing the Arkansas Historical Society voted never to publish it. 📌 Subscribe and hit the bell for more buried stories from American history. 👇 Drop your state or city in the comments—and tell me: was Hester a soldier, a judge, an avenger, or something we still don’t have a word for?
