We Shall Overcome featuring Roberta Flack and Grover Washington Jr.
After having spent last weekend helping Roberta celebrate her 80th...yes 80th birthday, I had to put together this tribute to her, as well as to celebrate African American History Month. I produced this contemporary version of We Shall Overcome in 1987, the year after completing Al Green and Deniece Williams rendition of "Lift Every Voice and Sing". It ended up as a single for Atlantic Records. I will talk about it more in my book. Arranger Leon Pendarvis, background vocals - Luther Vandross (also background vocals arranger) , James Ingram, David Lasley, and George Duke. I can't listen to it without crying. Yes that is the one and only Grover Washington Jr. on sax. The love that was in the room that day! Enjoy.
