The sky opens just enough to let in a strong, almost theatrical ray of light. Victor sees it, feels it, lives it: he jumps to his feet, shakes his still-slightly damp fur, and looks at me as if to say, "Let's go, it's our moment." So we get the day going again, we park Gulliver at the foot of Monte San Vicino, that gentle giant that dominates the inland Marche region. The engine stalls, but the real journey begins now. Tactical backpack, sure-footed, light-hearted, inside the backpack is everything: Fresh water, a first aid kit, snacks for you and Victor, a "just in case" poncho, and a multifunctional pocket knife. Every item has a story, a reason, a memory. The trail awaits us, ready to go. Victor sniffs everything, as always, and I observe everything, as always. It's a perfect balance. When we finally reach the summit, the large iron cross welcomes us like a beacon. We sit at its base, feeling the cold metal behind us and the wind shifting direction. Victor crouches nearby, tired but proud. It's one of those moments that speak louder than words: the silence, the view, my breathing slowing again. Suddenly, the sky changes... The clouds roll in from behind the ridge, swift, compact, like a curtain that falls too soon. I look at them and feel that little knot in my stomach—not of fear, but of caution. Victor raises his nose. I zip up my jacket. The wind carries a different smell, I understand that yes... this is another story.
