Philosophy professor at USP Vladimir Safatle, 52, enjoyed being called "psychotic, schizophrenic, psychopath, insane, and mentally degraded" so much that he wrote these adjectives on the back cover of his most recent work, "The Left That Is Not Afraid to Say Its Name - a New Book" (Planeta). The words were directed at him five years ago by Olavo de Carvalho, a guru of Bolsonarism who died in 2022, for whom Safatle should be "banned from teaching and writing." If he were alive, however, Carvalho might agree with some of Safatle's criticisms of the left, such as that he is "an expert in betrayal." "When the left wins, it implements the same policies as the right." Alternate federal deputy for the PSOL in São Paulo, Vladimir Safatle says that the Lula government "is not delivering what the population is looking for" and considers that the left is experiencing a "dramatic situation." He denied to UOL that the government's problem is communication — "it's action," he says — and claims that there is no civilized right wing. "This is a unicorn."
