How are you all doing? As the season moves from summer to fall, the best season has arrived. It's perfect weather for cycling. And yet, I received a request for maintenance work. I was aware of its appeal, so I deliberately passed it up. We recently decided to carry a new brand, the KONA BIKES Rove, and I thoroughly overhauled it. Before introducing the new product, I'd like to share my focus on its appeal. I'll also share its advantages and disadvantages! This ROVE ST had been in good use for seven years, but it had various issues, so I completely overhauled it. I noticed signs of it being ridden with cages attached in various places. This was my first full-spec overhaul of a KONA, so it took a lot of effort. When the bike was brought in, the shifter position was unstable, causing the chain to fall off. When the bike was shifted into low gear, the chain fell off, and the derailleur was in danger of breaking. It showed signs of having been used quite a lot. I provided a rough estimate based on my initial inspection. It has 24-lug wheels, which are rare for a steel bike. I removed the seat post and looked inside. This is where the thinness of the steel is most apparent. Check which way the tube tapers. Ah, this! The inside of the seat post and seat tube were covered in brown rust. When I removed the seat post, I checked for damage to the frame and how the bike was ridden. Here's the part I checked related to that: the cable guide behind the bottom bracket was still attached. It's not necessary for a bike with a front single full outer, so I removed it this time. When I first received it, the drainage holes were gone because of the wire guide. That's why the bottom bracket was covered in rust. That's how much use the bike has been. The bike must be happy too! As the season progresses, there's probably a chance the weather will be bad and you'll get caught in the rain. It got pretty rough... In that case, removing the seat and turning it upside down will help the water drain out. If your bike doesn't have hydraulic brakes, turn it upside down occasionally to drain the water. But, for this price, it's an incredible frame! It's amazing! The ride is mild, so you'll be able to feel the tension and flexibility of the chromoly. The lightweight design is thanks to the clever hollowing out of various parts of the frame! The trade-off is that the frame can be relatively difficult to clean for those who aren't good with mechanics, but the bike frame is amazing! The framework has been designed in various ways to reduce weight. It's impressive! As a chromoly complete bike brand, it's truly impressive! The tire markings and the wheel valve positions were different, so next time you replace the tire or tube, it might be a good idea to match them up! It will make it easier to find when inflating! When we received the bike, there was some play in the head. We removed the head and, since there was some play, put in a lot of effort to remove any looseness in the bearings, check for damage, and repair it. When servicing a fully outer-mounted bike without spending too much money, we used SRAM parts, which tend to be expensive, and combined them with parts compatible with the complete bike spec. Since it's an 11-speed, I'm running an Ultegra-grade chain. I also replaced the headstock. The bottom bracket was in terrible condition, too... I felt it was necessary, so I had the bottom bracket facing and tapped three times. An overhaul involves inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and necessary part replacement. Seven chains had broken due to repeated chain drop inside the low gear. Therefore, the rear wheel was reassembled. The rear hanger was finally repositioned. This is a common occurrence with chain drop. If your gears are malfunctioning, consider an overhaul every few years. This time, I replaced the chain, wheel, bar tape, wires, cables, and bottom bracket. Please leave comments, ratings, and subscribe to my channel.
