We all have a magnificent cinema in our heads: A lot is happening nonstop, there's color, sound, and even smell and taste; we can rewind and remember, fast-forward and plan. The best part: We experience the film. The only question is: What exactly does that mean? Is the self that experiences the film part of the film—or outside of it and something entirely different? Is our consciousness ultimately just an effect of a magnificent film machine that we call the brain? Physicists actually believe that consciousness, too, can be explained purely scientifically.
