Another DFAM Lyra Jam
I use the Moog DFAM and the Lyra more and more for my recordings, but having a simple jam now and then really keeps my ears fresh. Here I use the DFAM as the main sequencer for the Lyra, so the Lyra doubles as an effect section (for this beautiful distortion and delay), and as a bass synth. Here are some details about the patch: Inside the DFAM I wanted to use both VCOs independently in patching the velocity out into the VCO 2 in. So the pitch knobs are the VCO 1 melody, and the velocity knobs the VCO 2 melody. That was the idea - but I made a mistake and patched the VCO 2 out to the velocity out. Hmm. Anyway, the pitch is modulating the noise - to have the snare on step 5. The other modules play no role here - I just use the MFB mixer to send the DFAM to the Lyra and directly to the interface. This way I have 2 channels which I separate slightly in the stereo field. In the first part I play with the delay of the Lyra. Turning the Feedback up brings in a saturated tone since the delay is very short. When I make it longer, I bring the FB down to have clear double hits of kick or snare. I change that fast and often - which looks a bit stupid but brings in a certain level of variety. The DFAM’s VCO 1 out is going to the CV voices in of the Lyra. The Mod-knobs are fed by that input if you switch their input to LFO/FB CV. In the first part this plays no role since I keep the Hold knob down, but I bring it in when I set the DFAM Seq Pitch Mod switch to the middle position - that way only the VCO Frequency knobs determine the pitch. When I do this I take the volume of the Lyra down - sometimes a bit too much, maybe. Setting the Seq Pitch Mod to the upper position again means that Lyra and DFAM VCO 1 play the same melody. The crazy Lyra sounds at the end come from the pitch knob of the right oscillator group - obviously they do have an impact even if the Mod knobs are turned up completely. In case you find these technical information somehow useful, or if you have more questions about it - let me know below. Thanks for watching!
