Billur Kalkavan was born in November 1962 in Beylerbeyi, Istanbul. She had a brother named Rıza. Thanks to her father, she was introduced to the camera at the age of 7... She dropped out of school in the second year of high school. She went to America. There, she took her high school graduation exams. She took psychology courses at the University of California. After her 4-year adventure in America, Billur Kalkavan started presenting programs on TRT (Turkish Radio and Television). In 1978, she played a small role in the film "Sultan". In 1988, she acted in the TV series "Kaynana" with Tekin Akmansoy. Billur Kalkavan later founded a theater company with Enver Aysever. In the 90s, Billur Kalkavan acted in TV series such as "Sonradan Görmeler," "Aşık Oldum," "Tatlı Kaçıklar," "Eyvah Babam," and "Eyvah Kızım Büyüdü." In the 2000s, she continued her acting career with productions such as "Reyting Hamdi" and "Ihlamurlar Altında." Her last role was in the 2018 film "Canavar Gibi." Billur Kalkavan never married. She spent the last 13 years with actor Buğra Bahadırlı, who is 22 years younger than her. He was always there for her during her difficult times and illness. When she went to the doctor, she faced the painful truth. She had lung cancer, and the disease had progressed. Sadly, treatments, hope, and staying positive were not enough to save Billur Kalkavan. Lung cancer finished her off in about six months. During chemotherapy, a fungal infection developed in her body. That fungal infection caused her immune system to collapse. Shortly after being admitted to intensive care, she passed away on October 15, 2022, at the age of 59, 18 days before her 60th birthday. Billur Kalkavan's funeral prayer was held at Zincirlikuyu Mosque. Her only surviving relative, her brother Rıza Kalkavan, accepted condolences. Many well-known figures attended Billur Kalkavan's funeral ceremony, including İlber Ortaylı, Hamdi Alkan, Halil Sezai, Ömer Koç, Nevbahr Koç, Yeşim Salkım, Nilgün Belgün, Halil Sezai, Yeliz, and Berksan. Following the prayer, she was buried in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery. Billur Kalkavan's brother, Rıza Kalkavan, fell into depression after losing his loved one. She passed away in 2024, just two years after her sister. Suspicion arose that she died from consuming counterfeit alcohol, but investigations revealed she had fallen into a coma after drinking alcohol for hours. Like her sister, she died at the age of 59.
