INFJ Masking Giftedness
The gifted INFJ often masks their own giftedness due to confusion about what giftedness actually is, and also because of past experiences where they were shamed or excluded for being gifted. ✨ GET THE FREE BOOK Subscribe to my newsletter to get your FREE copy of Conquering the Fear of Being Seen: 👉 https://laurensapala.com/newsletter/ 🕒 Chapters 0:00 - Intro 0:22 - More than IQ 3:25 - Social Status 5:52 - Envy 7:33 - Being Excluded 11:38 - Bad Experiences 12:40 - Masking 13:41 - Positive Solution 14:57 - Outro About This Video Society often sees “giftedness” as a set of left-brain talents. People who are labeled as “gifted” are often assumed to be good at math, logic, concrete problem-solving, and technology. Some INFJs do have strong talents in these areas, but many more INFJs are “creatively gifted,” meaning that their package of gifts is focused more on right-brain traits associated with levels of high creativity. Many INFJs tested as gifted in school and knew they were gifted when they were growing up, and this created distance between them and their peers. While parents may have boasted about their child’s gifted status, friends may have made cutting remarks or made the INFJ feel badly about being gifted in some other way. These past experiences create a lasting imprint and we then associate our giftedness with the potential for being a social outcast. This leads INFJs to grow into adults who fall into a pattern of masking their own giftedness and try to hide their gifts from others whenever they can.
