Eighty years ago, as World War II was raging onward, the United States Army was ramping up defenses against the Japanese military across its territories in the Pacific Ocean region. One of the most important locations of defense was the White Pass & Yukon Route, which was a narrow gauge railroad extending from the waters of the Inside Passage of Alaska at Skagway northward into the interior of present day British Columbia and Yukon Territory. The United States Army Transportation Corps ordered 11 locomotives of the S118 Class "MacArthur" locomotives to be built for use on the White Pass & Yukon, numbers 190 through 200. Thus came to be locomotive #192. Fast forward to present day, "Klondike Katie" is still serving the public as Dollywood amusement park's classic attraction, operating on the very backbone of Dollywood as it has through multiple ownerships since 1961 in Pigeon Forge. This video showcases Klondike Katie hard at work on the mountain it has pulled passengers over for decades, and shows that she's got a lot left in her despite her age. Now, please enjoy this exciting video brought to you by Blue Comet Productions! This video was filmed on August 1st, 2023.
