Yamaha DTX790k First Impressions

The DTX700 line is on the top of Yamaha's Mid Tier electronic drum line. It has the pads of the flagship module's, but with a dumbed down version of the DTX900 module. How does it stack up? It's a solid drumset with decent sizes. 13” Crash 2x 15” Ride 12” Snare 10” Toms 3x 13” Highhat It uses Yamaha's DTX textured silicon drum pads. They feel great, and there's alot of drummers out there that actually prefer them to mesh, (I'm still in the mesh drums camp though). The sizes of the pads match the Roland TD30k, which is it's main competition at the moment. The sounds are decent, but not incredible. It has 500 (16 bit) samples inside, with 12 individual inputs. As has a really interesting app inside that lets you change nearly everything on a phone or ipad. Overall I like the drumset, but it's a bit too expensive to really be tough competition to other options in the same price range. It's a good buy, but get it on sale or used.
